THE DIRTY THIRTIES This book is an
overview of migrants, musicians, and the work of the FSA Farm Security
Administration photographic division and ‘Field Recording’ during the 'Great
Depression.' together with an overview of contemporary Country and blues
recordings. My own exposure to early rural recordings and research of early
recordings over four decades prompted me to investigate this period. I was
impressed by the photographic work of the Farm Security Administration that
portrayed poignant pictures of migrants that even today, make one stop and
consider the harshness of that period. This book portrays the onslaught of
‘Dust storms’, re-settlement of migrants, early Field recording and Country
and Blues recordings of that era |
